SACRAMENTO STATE TEAMS EARN HIGH ACADEMIC PROGRESS RATES FOR THE 10TH STRAIGHT YEAR

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State's athletics programs continue to achieve high marks in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rates (APR), which were released today by the NCAA for all Division I sports teams for the 2013-14 through 2016-17 period. Each Sacramento State sport had four-year APR averages well above the 930 score that the NCAA uses as a threshold for penalties.

Every Hornet team earned multi-year rates of higher than 945, nine scored a 980 or better, and three teams received an APR Public Recognition Award with perfect scores of 1,000 (men's basketball, women's golf, men's cross country). The men's cross country team earned a perfect score for the seventh consecutive year, and men's basketball earned a perfect score for the second straight year.

The report marks the 10th consecutive year that every Sacramento State sport has been APR compliant.

"I think our APR success over the past 10 years speaks to the importance our coaching staffs place on academic success," Sacramento State Student-Athlete Resource Center Director Paul Edwards said. "The APR should play a big part in how coaches recruit and make roster decisions, and I think our achievements in this area further demonstrate the great efforts of our coaches, staff and administration in supporting student-athlete success and development."

A multi-year APR score of 930 is the minimum level of academic success - teams scoring below 930 are ineligible for postseason and subject to additional penalties determined by the NCAA.
