HORNET STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN 43 WINTER CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC AWARDS

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State student-athletes in five winter sports have combined to receive 43 academic all-conference honors.

The Hornets earned 33 Big Sky Conference all-academic awards in men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's indoor track and field. In addition, 10 gymnasts were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-academic squad.

The 43 honors claimed by members of the five winter teams bring Sacramento State's total all-academic honors to 88 during the 2017-18 academic year. Hornet student-athletes earned 45 all-academic awards in the fall encompassing six sports.

The women's indoor track and field team led the way during the winter with 14 honorees while the men's indoor team had 12. Gymnastics accounted for 10 all-academic selections while women's basketball had four, and men's basketball had three.

To be eligible for Big Sky all-academic recognition, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions. In track & field, a student-athlete competed at the indoor conference championships. 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.

To be eligible for MPSF all-academic honors (gymnastics): 1) A student-athlete must have a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average. 2) Be at least a sophomore academically. 3) Must have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received. 4) Must have competed in fifty percent or more of the institution's competition in the student-athlete's respective sport.
