A former Hornet student-athlete, Missy Matzen became the Assistant Director of Development in February of 2012. Prior to her current position, she served as the athletics department’s development assistant for six months, and a compliance intern for four months.
Matzen was a four-year letterwinner (2005-08) for the Sacramento State women’s soccer team which she helped to a combined 39-27-14 overall record and a 15-6-6 conference mark during her career. That included a Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament championship, and the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2007. The Gold River, Calif., native, who received all-conference accolades in 2007, appeared in 70 career matches as an outside midfielder, starting 54 times during her final three seasons in the Green and Gold.
As Sacramento State’s Assistant Director of Development, Matzen will be responsible for special event planning, coordinating all VIP functions, helping to fulfill membership benefits, and giving overall support to all areas of the Hornet Club.
She graduated from Sacramento State in December of 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in communications, and is on pace to graduate with a master’s degree in sport management from the University of San Francisco in December of 2013.
