Endowments

The Stinger Athletic Association has established nine endowments since the 2007-08 season. Each are listed below.

Robert E. Lee Kenner III Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Created by his wife and children to benefit the men's basketball program. Kenner played both football and basketball for the Hornets before beginning a long career as a probation officer.

Shari Wright Daniels Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually to a graduating senior or a Sacramento State graduate who has been accepted into the Teaching Credential Program. Wright Daniels was a cheerleader at Sacramento State and later spent time as a teacher and educational administrator.

Debby Colberg Volleyball Endowment

Designed to create funds to help with recruiting. The endowment is named after the legendary Hornet volleyball coach who retired following the 2007 season after leading Sacramento State for 32 years.

The Sockolov Family Scholarship Endowment

Established by Dr. Ronald and Deborah Sockolov and will be awarded to Sacramento State students enrolled in the Kinesiology/Athletic Training degree option.
 
The Business Administration/Baseball Scholarship Endowment
Established by alumnus Jack Bertolucci to provide scholarships to students who are majors in Business Administration and members of the baseball team.
 
The Business Administration/Soccer Scholarship Endowment
Established by alumni Jack Bertolucci to provide scholarships to students who are majors in Business Administration and members of the soccer team.
 
The Hank Elespuru Scholarship Endowment
Established by former students and friends of Coach Elespuru to honor his memory.  Hank Elespuru coached the Sacramento State boxing team from 1955-1961 and produced boxers who won gold, silver, and bronze medals in both NCAA and Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Tournaments. The Hank Elespuru Scholarship will be awarded to students who meet eligibility requirements for 5th year athletic grants in any sport, with preference for student coaches or students who have shown a commitment to coaching. The Athletics Department will review applications and submit finalists to the Alumni Association Scholarship Committee for final selection.
 
The Michael “Rudy” Minnick Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Established to honor Rudy Minnick’s compassion for others, love of sports and recreation activities, and commitment to education.  Students must meet eligibility requirements for 5th year athletic grants, with preference for student coaches or students who have shown a commitment to coaching, former members of the baseball team, or students who are Kinesiology majors.
 
The Harold B. Strauch, M.D. Family Scholarship Endowment
Established to provide financial assistance to students interested in the field of athletic training.  Students must be in a program pursuing a degree in Kinesiology/Athletic Training.
