Strength & Conditioning



Philosophy

Movement based program which emphasizes the development of: speed, explosiveness, power, strength, flexibility, and conditioning while minimizing injury through direct supervision.

This program is based on the following: consistency, accountability, progression and effort. The movement based program is a periodic, year-round plan which covers all facets of athletic performance. All modes of training are emphasized to help maximize the athlete's genetic potential.

This program is an aggressive, enthusiastic approach to training and provides the student-athlete with a comprehensive strength program to help each individual reach their highest level of competition. The program also develops mental fortitude and increases confidence within the individual, building team unity through a disciplined approach to training.

Staff
Gary Uribe, Director of Strength & Conditioning
3rd Year

Gary Uribe was named as the Director of Strength & Conditioning in the fall of 2006. Prior to coming to Sacramento State, Uribe spent three years as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Southern California. While at USC, he assisted with the football and baseball programs, and also served as the head strength and conditioning coach for men’s and women’s track & field, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s tennis, men’s golf and women’s cross-country.

He earned his master’s degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific in 2005 after earning his bachelor’s degree in health services management from the University of LaVerne in 1996. Gary and his wife, Christie, have two sons, Jake (who was born in November of 2006) and Caleb (born June of 2008).

Scott Salwasser
Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach

Scott Salwasser is in his second year as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. He previously spent two years as a graduate assistant with the program. Salwasser earned his master's degree in kinesiology/sports performance from Sacramento State in 2006. Prior to coming to the Hornets, he was the strength and conditioning intern for the Oakland Raiders.

Salwasser played collegiate football at UC Davis and received degrees in English and communications.
